The Charter Township of Flushing remodeled its township office at 6524 N. Seymour Road after the township board approved a $320,654 base bid from Case Construction on October 14, 2025, and the township showed off the remodeled space at a ribbon cutting on May 12, 2026 (Flushing Township Board minutes, October 14, 2025) (Flushing Township ribbon cutting invitation, May 2026). On August 11, 2026, the board approved a contract to replace the township roof (Flushing Township Board draft minutes, August 11, 2026).

The township took bids on the renovation in 2025

The township advertised the job as Project No. 22-520, "Improvements for: Flushing Township Hall, 6524 N. Seymour Rd, Flushing, MI 48433." The advertisement said the "work to include renovations of office space, including demolition of stud walls, doors, windows, and finishes" (Flushing Township advertisement for bids, 2025).

Bidders were told to gather at the Township Hall for a pre-bid conference at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Sealed bids were due by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, and each bid had to include bid security of five percent of the total proposal. The architect listed on the project was H2A Architects (Flushing Township advertisement for bids, 2025).

The board approved the base bid 7 to 0 and voted on each add-on

At its October 14, 2025 meeting, the board took up the bids under an agenda item titled "Discussion and possible motion on H2A bid approval." The minutes record that the vote followed "much discussion on bids that came in." Treasurer Terry A. Peck made the motion, supported by Clerk Wendy D. Meinburg, "to approve Case Construction bid of 320,654.00 as presented." All seven board members voted yes (Flushing Township Board minutes, October 14, 2025).

The board then voted on a contingency and five optional add-ons, called alternates, one at a time (Flushing Township Board minutes, October 14, 2025):

A construction contingency of $32,065.40 passed 6 to 1, with Trustee Linda Minarik voting no.

Alternate No. 1, $66,599 "for the Lobby," failed 3 to 4. Peck, Supervisor Frederick R. Thorsby and Meinburg voted yes. Minarik and Trustees Andrew Eichorn, William Bain and Joshua Upleger voted no.

Alternate No. 2, $19,634 "for Ballistics," passed 7 to 0.

Alternate No. 3, $12,090 "for Material Upgrade," passed 6 to 1, with Eichorn voting no.

Alternate No. 4, $4,691 "for the Sound Improvements," passed 6 to 1, with Minarik voting no.

Alternate No. 5, $5,995 "for the Auto Door assist," passed 7 to 0.

The township planned to move staff to the Hall during construction

At the November 18, 2025 meeting, the minutes reported: "The township office will be closed to the public the week of November 24, 2025 while staff is being moved to the Hall. Construction starts December 1, 2025" (Flushing Township Board minutes, November 18, 2025).

A notice from Clerk Meinburg told residents that "the Flushing Township office will be under construction for December, January, February and March." The notice said that during that time the office would operate out of the Flushing Township Hall, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and board meetings would be held at the Flushing Area Senior Center at 106 Elm Street in Flushing (Flushing Township notice, November 21, 2025).

The work kept generating smaller decisions. On December 9, 2025, meeting at the senior center, the board voted 7 to 0 on a motion by Bain, supported by Meinburg, "to approve bid of $10,973 for Township entrance doors as presented." Meinburg "invited the Trustees to stop by the Township to checkout the progress of the renovations" (Flushing Township Board minutes, December 9, 2025).

The township held a ribbon cutting on May 12, 2026

The township's invitation read: "You are cordially invited to the Tuesday May 12, 2026 For the Flushing Township Office remodel." The 4:30 p.m. event at 6524 N. Seymour Road included a welcome from township officials, a building tour and refreshments (Flushing Township ribbon cutting invitation, May 2026).

The board met at the township offices that evening. Its minutes note: "Township Open House and Chamber of Commerce Ribbon cutting was today. We have around 35 people here to tour" (Flushing Township Board minutes, May 12, 2026).

The roof decision ran from April to August 2026

The roof did not move as quickly. On April 14, 2026, the board voted 7 to 0 "to approve the postponement of Flushing Township roof bids until May 12th, 2026 Board Meeting" (Flushing Township Board minutes, April 14, 2026). On May 12, it voted 5 to 2 "to postpone decision on H2A roof bid process on Flushing Township to next months meeting" (Flushing Township Board minutes, May 12, 2026).

In July the board brought in a different architect. On July 14, 2026, it voted 6 to 0, with Upleger absent, "to approve NJB Architect Inc. reduced bid proposal for township roof of $5800" (Flushing Township Board minutes, July 14, 2026). The township then advertised for Township Hall roofing replacement, with proposals due by 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The listed work was "removal and replacement of asphalt shingle roofing, wood decking replacement as required (unit price), new 6\" gutters and downspouts" (Flushing Township roofing advertisement, July 20, 2026).

On August 11, 2026, the board voted 7 to 0 on a motion by Eichorn, supported by Upleger, "to approve Cardinal Roofing at $86,785 AND $1.95 per square foot unit pricing to replace the township roof" (Flushing Township Board draft minutes, August 11, 2026). Those minutes are posted as a draft, and they do not give a start or finish date for the roof work.
